To mark the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth, Lo Scarabeo is celebrating the great writer with a unique deck of Tarot cards that is sure to delight her fans around the world. The anniversary will be on December 16, 2025.
At first glance, one might think that Jane Austen's writings are not particularly well suited to the occult nature of Tarot. Jane Austen's books and Tarot, however, contain an essentially identical message: the vital importance of balance in our daily lives. The Tarot illuminates the need for balance with its very structure. The Major Arcana are devoted to matters of the spirit, while the Minor Arcana deal with the lesser, more mundane matters of life. The four suits embody all the elements. In Jane Austen's Tarot, these four suits are represented by Candles, related to passion, energy, and initiative; Cups, which convey aspects of love and emotion; Pens, the rational, analytical, and intellectual side of life; and finally, Coins, which embody physical and tangible matters. Each of these evocative cards is based on a character or scene from Austen's writings, but no knowledge of Austen's work, or of the Tarot, is necessary to use these cards.
