    DESCRIPTION

    M.K. Čiurlionis, Angel (Angel Prelude), ca. 1909
    Original painting size: 50 × 53.7 cm;

    This painting speaks of beginnings – an angel stands atop a mountain, like a bearer of light, opening the path to a spiritual journey. In the background, bridges stretch into the distance as multicolored angels cross them. The entire composition breathes clarity and softness; the figures are light, the atmosphere is filled with silence and serenity. This work of art symbolizes the ascent of the soul and the passage into the spiritual realm, inviting the viewer to discover inner peace and harmony.

    “The world is a vast canvas on which each of us leaves a mark.”
    – M.K. Čiurlionis

    Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875–1911) is one of the most renowned Lithuanian artists, who left an indelible mark on Lithuanian culture and the history of modern European art. A painter, composer, and writer – a true polymath – he lived only 35 years, but his legacy is immense. Čiurlionis worked at the intersection of symbolism and modernism and is considered one of the pioneers of abstract art. He was the first Lithuanian artist to merge music and painting into a single artistic language. His works are often described as “painted music.” Deeply rooted in Lithuanian culture, his art reflects a mystical connection to nature and the spirit of the land.

    We thank the National M.K. Čiurlionis Art Museum for their collaboration.
