    Olive Burl Chess set 27x27cm (Medium) with Staunton Chessmen 5.8 cm King. This unique wooden chess set includes a variety of thoughtfully sourced products. The set includes the perfectly matched Olive Burl chessboard that was crafted in Manopoulos workshop in Greece by skilful artisans using the Art of Marquetry. The chessmen are weighted and feature a 5.8 cm King's height. Carefully selected wood veneers, traditional designs and special craftsmanship using the art of Marquetry  give life to this Wooden Chess collection. The Staunton chess pieces, the ones we know and love, the ones we simply think of as chess pieces. These classic chess pices are named after Howard Staunton who was widely considered to be one of the best players in the world. The knight, the most intricate and distinct piece of any chess set, is a realistically carved horse head. The Staunton Knight was likely inspired by sculture on the east pediment of the Parthenon.
